Stories in the sky: Jet OUT tail numbers – N824NE

Every Jet OUT aircraft carries a story, and N824NE, delivered as part of our fleet expansion, carries one that is especially meaningful to our PIC and Training Captain, Nicholas Roland. For Nicholas, aviation has always been a dream nurtured from childhood. He spent countless hours attending EAA AirVenture and exploring his love for airplanes. But it was the encouragement of his wife, especially after they were married, that made the difference in turning that passion into a career.

“After we got married, I decided to make a major career change from sales to aviation,” Nicholas recalls. “I couldn’t have done it without my wife’s support — she believed in me every step of the way.” That’s why the number 824 is so significant. It represents August 24, his wedding anniversary, and serves as a tribute to the partnership, trust, and encouragement that allowed him to pursue a lifelong passion. N824NE is more than just a tail number; it’s a symbol of love, determination, and new beginnings.

Building a career at Jet OUT

Nicholas has been with Jet OUT for 5½ years. Before joining, he had pre-existing relationships with some employees from the company’s early days as Phoenix Aviation, which helped him become part of the team early on.

“I was drawn to Jet OUT because even as the company grows, it still feels small,” Nicholas says. “As pilots, we have the freedom to share ideas and feedback, which makes every day rewarding.”

Since recently becoming a Training Captain, Nicholas has found great fulfillment in mentoring new crew members, helping them develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed in aviation.

Life beyond the cockpit

Outside of work, Nicholas enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, and going hunting. His favorite destinations to fly into and stay overnight include Telluride, the Grand Tetons, and sunny beaches in winter.

Nicholas’s journey also carries an inspiring reminder: he didn’t start a career in aviation until age 29. His story is proof that it’s never too late to pursue a passion — especially with the right support by your side.

A tail number with heart

For Nicholas, N824NE is more than just another aircraft in Jet OUT’s fleet. It’s a symbol of partnership, trust, and following your dreams. Every time he climbs into the cockpit, it’s a reminder of the leap he took, the support of his wife, and the career he’s built doing what he loves.
